Old Saybrook is aiming for his third consecutive class championship Mr. Canton is back in the final for the first time since 2003.… Old Saybrook tied the semi-final match with Canton with 2 seconds left on a penalty before winning 5- 3 in overtime. … Canton had to go to the PKs in the semi-finals where he beat Griswold 1-0 (4-2 in shootout). … Canton allowed one goal in the state tournament, while Old Saybrook allowed six goals in three games. … The teams met in a conference crossover on October 2 with Old Saybrook winning 3-2.

YOU SHOULD KNOW

Former Saybrook coach Steve Waters will look to win his 10th state championship, but first with the Rams schedule. The state’s career coach wins leader in sports has won his other nine at Farmington. He won state titles at Farmington in the LL, L and M classes and will now try to win one in the S class. Since 2003, a team from the NCCC or the Shoreline has participated in the class championship match. S. A team from one of these conferences has won the S class since 2013.

Stonington rolled, passing the tournament teams 12-1. … The Bears haven’t lost since the start of the season and since that loss have allowed just 8 goals for the rest of the regular season, registering eight shutouts. … Ellington won over PKs in the quarterfinals against Law and beat Ledyard in the overtime semifinals 3-2. … The Knights have allowed just 10 goals in the regular season with nine shutouts posted.

YOU SHOULD KNOW

This is a rematch of the 2019 M-Class Championship won by Stonington. … Ellington is playing in an M-Class title match for the fifth time since 2013, winning it all in 2014.… Ellington played one of Class M’s toughest schedules, adding to his already tough schedule matches against Class L finalist Fitch, Class LL No. 1 seed Xavier and Class LL NFA from ECC. … Sam Montalto of Stoneton is the school’s all-time leading scorer, finishing the regular season with 97 career goals.

Cheshire beat No.4 Greenwich, No.5 Norwalk and No.1 Xavier to reach the final. … Farmington had to beat Number 10 Warde, Number 2 Hall and Number 6 Staples on the Dillon Road… Both teams allowed just two goals against this tournament. … Farmington has only allowed one opponent (Hall) more than one goal in any game this season, registering seven shutouts. … Cheshire had six clean sheets in the regular season and two more in the state tournament. … No.13 Cheshire has lost five times this season, including three to Xavier, including in double overtime in the SCC Championship game. … Farmington lost twice to Hall and once to Newington.

YOU SHOULD KNOW

Farmington chose to play in the LL class ahead of the season despite being an L class school in size. … Farmington has won three state titles in LL class, four in class L and five in class M.… The last time the CCC faced CSC in a state final was in 2016, when Farmington won defeated Shelton. … In the past 20 years, CSC has only placed two teams (Shelton in 2016 and Fairfield Prep in 2012) in the LL Class Championship game.
