The Yankees finished the season with a 92-70 record and lost to the Boston Red Sox in the American League Wild Card game. The club have yet to announce managerial status Aaron Boone, whose contract with the team expires after the World Series.

On this date in the history of the Mets

One of the most iconic captures in Mets history came on that date in 1969. On October 15, 1969, the Mets and the Orioles met in Game 4 of the 1969 World Series. Tom seaver got the ball for the Amazins and was spectacular.

The Mets took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a solo homerun of Donn Clendenon. Seaver would hold the lead until the ninth inning when the Orioles threatened. Simple back to back by Boog powell and Franck robinson put the runners in the first and third row with an out for Brooks robinson. This is when the “capture” happened. Robinson hit a downline to right field and the Mets outfielder Ron swoboda tried to do a play. It was at this point that Swoboda, running to his right, leapt forward and made a spectacular capture, depriving Robinson of additional bases.

The Orioles would equalize the game on the take, as Franck robinson came home to score a tie on a sacrifice fly, but it could have been a lot worse. The capture of Swoboda helped Seaver escape trouble in the ninth grade. The match would advance to extra innings where the Mets would win in the 10e round to take a 3-1 lead in the series.

The most memorable game in Mets playoff history took place on that date in 1986. It was the sixth NLCS game of 1986, when the Mets beat the Houston Astros to advance to third. World Franchise Series. The match lasted four hours and 46 minutes, marking the longest postseason game so far. It was a 16-end marathon that started off with a 3-0 lead over the Astros in the ninth inning.
